The most beatiful "unknown" road in Norway with spectacular scenery + Waterfall 297 meters. (fourth highest in the world)
The Mardalsfossen waterfall cascades 297 metres down into the valley and is the fourth highest waterfall in the world (the whole waterfall is 655 m). The waterfall is an impressive sight in the period when the water is released by the hydroelectricity company - from 20th June to 20th August each year.
The walk up to the waterfall takes about 20-30 minutes.
The long Eikesdalsvatnet lake lies just 26 metres above sea level, while the surrounding mountains tower to heights of 1,500 to 1,800 metres straight up from the lake.
Aursjøvegen (the Aursjø Road) beats most roads in Norway when it comes to spectacular scenery. This mountain road from Sunndalsøra in Sunndal district to Eidsvåg in Molde district extends for 121 km, including a 55-km tolled section originally built in 1947 for construction traffic working on the Aura power station.
The many attractions along the way include towering mountains, well-maintained hiking trails, Aurstaupet viewpoint, Mardalsfossen waterfall, Eikesdalsvatnet lake, the Dovrefjell-Sunndalsfjella national park, rock carvings, mountain dairies, Aursjøhytta lodge, Nesset parsonage. Aursjøvegen invites you to enjoy an unforgetable journey by car, by bike, or on foot! Or a combination.
Welcome to Aursjøvegen — Aursjøvegen
The viewpoint
with magical view over Eikesdalen is situated along Aursjøvegen construction road, often referred to as the mini version of the famous Trolltunga.
400 meters of easy hiking from Aursjøvegen, you suddenly find yourself on the edge of the Aurstupet. Here you feel the suction from the depths so strongly that it is completely unimaginable that someone can think of jumping out with a parachute, but the base jumpers actually do it. Standing on the edge of the Aurstupet, and knowing that here there are many hundreds of meters straight down, and with a magnificent view over Eikesdalen, is an experience everyone should treat themselves to. Stop the car, take a short walk down to the edge of the cliff, and feel alive. Remember to keep a distance of 10 meters from the edge itself.
Pothole near the viewpoint. You are guaranteed a fresh experience if you choose to dip your toes in! When driving Aursjøveien, you will find the pothole in Finsetlia around 100 meters from the road.Experiences along Norway's wildest detourNature's own water park? You're guaranteed a refreshing experience if you choose to dip your toes or take a bath in the pothole.
